“Temper is what gets most of us into trouble. Pride is what keeps us there”

“Temper is what gets most of us into trouble. Pride is what keeps us there” is a saying that has been printed on many images.

“Temper gets you into trouble and pride keeps you there.—Ralph Code Huntington” was printed in the Chicago (IL) Daily Tribune on October 31, 1949.

“Temper is what gets most of us into trouble. Pride is what keeps us there. Mark Twain” was printed in the Rocky Mount (NC) Telegram on November 11, 1975. This version of the saying has become popular. but there is no evidence that Mark Twain (the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, 1835-1910) ever said it.
