Dark ‘N’ Stormy (ice cream float)

A Dark ‘N’ Stormy cocktail consists of Gosling’s rum and ginger beer. A Dark ‘N’ Stormy float consists of the cocktail, plus a scoop of rum raisin ice cream. The name “Dark ‘N’ Stormy” comes from the line “It was a dark and stormy night…,” the famous and often-parodied opening of Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s 1830 novel Paul Clifford.
The New York-based hamburger chain Five Napkin Burger (opened in 2003) serves a Dark “N’ Stormy float. It’s not known where or when the float originated.

On a whim, we ordered milkshakes for dessert, although mine was actually a “Dark and Stormy” float (dark rum, ginger beer, and rum raisin ice cream).

8 million burgers and Five Napkins
Instead of vanilla ice cream, the Dark & Stormy at Five Napkin, used rum raisin ice cream, and instead of root beer there was Sarnac ginger beer (which is actually, non alcoholic). And finally, to add a little kick, Goslings rum.  It was like a root beer float’s cooler, more boozy, big city cousin. And I dug it.
Creamy, frothy with just a hint of spice and a subtle bite from the rum, it was the start of a beautiful relationship.

We grabbed a seat at the bar (At Nizza in New York City—ed.) and ordered a few cocktails. I ordered a Dark and Stormy Float. It was a very interesting drink with the twist of Rum Raisin ice cream. I love Dark and Stormys, but I wasn’t thrilled with this concoction.

Very good local ice cream. This place has so many flavours to choose from. They allow you to sample before committing to a particular flavour. Remember to carry cash as they do not accept cards. My favourite ice cream is the dark and stormy which is a favourite local drink turned into an ice cream. It has all sorts of yummy flavours with ginger.
