Big Potato (jocular mistake for “Big Apple”)

New York City is called the “Big Apple,” not the “Big Potato.” However, Betty White, playing the character Rose Nylund on the television sitcom The Golden Girls, the “Sick and Tired” episode that originally aired on September 23, 1989, said:

“It’s going to be a great trip (to New York City—ed.), you wait and see. You’re going to be cured, and I’m going to get to see the Big Potato!”

What a waste.
Rose Nylund in New York.
It’s gonna be a great trip.
You wait and see.
You’re gonna be cured.
And I’m gonna get to see the Big Potato.
I said she was comforting.
I didn’t say she was smart.

ROSE
Rose Nylund (Betty White) always saw the world through rose-coloured glasses. This kind-hearted character kept audiences in stitches with her naïve observations, while she schooled her pals in her many hometown customs.
Blanche: “What a waste, Rose Nylund in New York.”
Rose: “It’s going to be a great trip, you wait and see…I’m going to get to see the big potato!”
