“Christmas is a deeply religious time we observe by going to the mall of our choice”

American author and humorist Dave Barry wrote about Christmas shopping for a newspaper column in November 1981:

“Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.”

The one-line saying has made several Christmas quotation collections.
