“Why did the chicken cross the road?”/“To get to the other side” is a classic riddle from the 19th century. A zebra version is:
     
Q: Why did the zebra cross the road?
A: Because it was a zebra crossing.
     
A “zebra” crossing is the name of a striped pedestrian crossing. “Why did the zebra cross the road? Because there’s a zebra cross and it’s stripy” was printed in a 2003 book.
