“Why did the detective cross the road?”/“To get to the homicide.”

“Why did the chicken cross the road?”/“To get to the other side” is a classic riddle from the 19th century. A detective version is:

Q: Why did the detective cross the road?
A: To get to the homicide.

“Homicide” sounds a bit like a “side.” The riddle was posted on Twitter by Duke Beefington on July 19, 2018, and on both Reddit—Cleanjokes and Reddit—3amjokes on July 25, 2020.
