Salute to Israel
Many "salutes to Israel" occurred in 1948 with the formation of the Jewish state. The programs held in New York City were particularly important in the formation of the modern state of Israel.
The annual "Salute to Israel" parade/events began in 1965.

The Story of the Parade 2005
The Salute To Israel Parade, the single largest gathering in the world in support of Israel, will celebrate the 57th Anniversary of the State of Israel on June 5, 2005 on Fifth Avenue in New York City. In the spirit of expressing support for Israel, the Parade theme for this year, in addition to Saluting Israel, will also celebrate 350 years of Jewish community life in America.

The Mall in Central Park echoed yesterday with joyous song and music and the rhythmic beat of youthful dancers in a salute ot Israel's 17th anniversary as a nation. About 20,000 persons roared their approval.
Under a warm sun, 8,000 youngsters marched from Third Avenue and 72d Street to the Mall.
