“Peeps are the candy corn of Easter”

Peeps have been called “the candy corn of Easter.” That is to say, like candy corn, it’s a food mainly eaten on the holiday (as with candy corn and Halloween) and at no other time, and that many people do not like.

Wikipedia: Peeps
Peeps are a marshmallow confection marketed since 1953 in the United States and Canada in the shape of chicks, bunnies, and other animals, as well as holiday shapes, with themes revolving around Halloween, Christmas, and Easter, produced by Pennsylvania-headquartered Just Born Quality Confections.

Originally promoted primarily at Easter, Peeps have subsequently been marketed as “Always in Season”, and have expanded to Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

Peeps is the Candy Corn of Easter
I’m impressed with the persistence of Peeps in our culture. What is the attraction?
