“Merry everything and a happy always”

“Merry everything and a happy always” is a Christmas saying—inspired by “Merry Christmas and a happy New Year”—that has been printed on many images. An explanation of the origin of the saying was printed in The Star-News (Chula Vista, CA), “Boxing Day thoughts” by Jackie Dewey, on December 28, 1980:

“My wish for my readers, stolen from one of my pet Christmas cards this year, idea by ‘Ziggy,’ for American Greetings:

“‘MERRY EVERYTHING AND HAPPY ALWAYS!’”

“Merry everything and a Happy always” was posted on Twitter by Mark Sonder on December 31, 2009.

We find the desires of letter writers J. Boven and Gerry Serratore (Voice of the people, Nov. 28) to own the entire holiday season and begrudge others their good wishes the most un-Christian attitude imaginable. Nevertheless, in the loving spirit of the season, we wish them both “Merry Everything and Happy Always.”
