JetFU (JetBlue nickname)

JetBlue is a low-cost airline headquartered in Forest Hills, Queens, with a main base at John F. Kennedy International Airport (also in Queens). On an August 8, 2010 flight from Pittsburgh to New York City, flight attendant Steven Slater quit his job and slid down the evacuation slide. The JetBlue nickname “JetFU” (“FU” represents a curse word) was widely used at the time.

The nickname “JetFU” has been used beyond the flight attendant incident. In November 2011, the popular blog The Drudge Report used “JetFU” for a news story (“JetFU: JetBlue ranks last in on-time arrivals”).

Wikipedia: JetBlue flight attendant incident
The JetBlue flight attendant incident was an altercation that occurred after JetBlue Airways Flight 1052, a flight from Pittsburgh to New York City on August 9, 2010, had landed. The incident garnered significant media attention when, upon landing, Steven Slater, a flight attendant, announced over the plane’s public address system that he had been called an obscenity by a passenger, quit his job, deployed the evacuation slide at the terminal gate, and slid down it. Slater claimed to have been injured by a passenger when he instructed her to sit down. Slater’s account of the event was not corroborated by others.

Do you think the flight attendant the slide down the emergency ramp on JetBlue is a hero or a zero?

Pretty much any brand name can be distorted into a derogatory (and often accurate) nickname. KFC alone has Kentucky Fried Pigeon, Kentucky Ducky and Dirty Bird. Jet Blue became JetFU after that flight attendant’s intercom tirade and two-fisted escape down the emergency slide.

You go up. You come down. You rush from here to there.

And then you stop.

Because your flight is delayed.

The News4 I-Team obtained a new government report that ranks jetBlue last for on-time arrivals so far this year.
