“I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day”

A jocular saying about Valentine’s Day has been printed on many images:

“I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.”

The saying has been cited in print since at least 2002. Comedian Paul McGinty has been credited in print since at least 2006.
