Hotel check-ins are often at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m., while hotel check-outs are at 10 am. or 11 a.m. Some people believe that this is a scam, and a charged day should be 24 hours.

If I check in at 3pm, that’s when I should be allowed to check out” was posted on X/Twitter by Anon Opin. on November 5, 2023, and this received over 5,500 likes. “One of the biggest scams we have been conditioned to accept is checking into accommodation from 4pm but needing to check out by 10am” was posted on X/Twitter by Dougie on January 5, 2024, and this received over 134,000 likes.

Hotels having us check-in at 4pm and check-out at 11am is straight thievery.
Honestly, I don’t even know the actual reason they do this. I don’t buy that they need 5hrs to clean the room for the next guest because plenty of times it’s painfully obvious the room hasn’t been dusted in months.

Hotel check-in at 4pm and check-out at 11am has always felt a little unbalanced. You spend most of the first day waiting to settle in, and just when you finally feel comfortable, it’s already time to pack up. It would be nice if stays allowed a bit more time to actually rest and enjoy the space you’re paying for. #justathought #traveltips
