Dominican Day Parade
The Dominican Day Parade began as a small celebration in Washington Heights in 1982. Now, it's held each August on Fifth Avenue and is one of New York's largest ethnic parades.

To the boom-chicka-boom (emphasis on the boom) of about a dozen live merengue bands on wheels, at least 100,000 people converged on Avenue of the Americas yesterday for the 15th annual Dominican Day Parade, which has grown from a modest celebration along Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights to one of the city's larger ethnic parades.
