Today’s news about a kid in Michigan who smashed into a police car because he was texting while driving is a sobering reminder: Don’t text and drive. Twitter responsibly.

North Star campaigns: DNT TXT N DRV

Ask a group of North Star High School student council members whether they’ve texted when they’re behind the wheel, and the answer is unanimous, if slightly sheepish.

The students contacted State Farm, which gave them $1,500 and advice on the campaign. Performance Dodge gave them $300.
With that money, they’ve made T-shirts, banners and posters and ordered 10,000 wristbands.
Everything carries the same slogan: Arrive Alive. DNT TXT N DRV.

But we are hesitant to change. I saw this firsthand when I instituted a policy at my company that forbids employees from using their phones for company business while driving. I heard countless stories about how hard it was for people to stop talking and texting while driving. Everyone is busy. Everyone feels she needs to use time in the car to get things done. But what happened to just driving?
