“Courtesy Counts: Manners Make a Better Ride” (bus and subway slogan)

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) began an advertising campaign in 2014 to encourage riders to have better manners in an attempt to prevent “manspreading” and other ills. “Courtesy Counts: Manners Make a Better Ride” became the slogan of the MTA’s campaign.

New York to tackle subway’s spreading scourge
Men are asked to keep their knees together as feminists highlight “manspreading” passengers who let it all hang out

New York is asking men to sit tight when they ride the subway, as it seeks to tackle a modern menace known as “manspreading”.

The city’s Metropolitan Transport Authority has launched a campaign to make men sit with their legs together, to prevent male passengers hogging space on packed underground trains.

“Courtesy counts: manners make a better ride,” reads one of the new posters, which shows passengers being forced to stand by a man making himself a little too comfortable and taking up two seats.
