For the second year, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, with Backpacker Magazine, turns the Big Apple into the country's largest urban adventure playground with Adventures NYC, a five borough celebration of all things outdoors. Designed to encourage New Yorkers to take advantage of the parks and natural resources just outside their doorstep, Adventures NYC offers both novice and experienced outdoor enthusiasts a variety of adventures. Activities will include hiking, camping, rock climbing, trapeze shows, fishing demos, and kayaking -- all in the middle of New York City!

Adventures NYC: Experience adventure on June 17 in New York City's biggest backyard, Central Park, with Adventures NYC. Central Park's Naumburg Bandshell will serve as "basecamp," with a gear expo and a variety of interactive events for adults and children. Test your skills in rock climbing or try kayaking for the first time. Take part in an outdoor fitness class and watch demos of back-country cooking. Exciting musical performances and x-games demos are sure to bring out the outdoor enthusiast in you!
