This is a comic variation of a quote usually credited (incorrectly) to Thomas Jefferson—“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” Of course, neither Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804) nor Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) ever said anything about internet memes.

The Hamilton version of the joke has been popular, even though Hamilton is not associated with the supposed original quotation.
