“I eat cake because it’s somebody’s birthday somewhere”

“I eat cake because it’s somebody’s birthday somewhere” is a jocular line that has been printed on many gift items, such as T-shirts and cards. “I’m offering chocolate cake (it’s somebody’s birthday somewhere; we ought to celebrate….)” was cited in print in 1997. “Birthday cake (...) To take from the Jackson/Buffet song - It’s somebody’s birthday somewhere…” was cited in 2008. “I just ate two giant pieces of cake. Hey, it’s somebody’s birthday somewhere” was cited on Twitter in 2010.

Similar sayings include “It’s five o’clock somewhere” (it’s time for an alcoholic drink), “It’s happy hour somewhere,” “Putting vodka in my juice, because it’s Russia somewhere” and “It’s breakfast time somewhere” (it’s time to eat breakfast foods, such as cereal).

I’m offering chocolate cake (it’s somebody’s birthday somewhere; we ought to celebrate. And there are enough candles for everyone to get their wish.)

Birthday cake - We have a bakery in town that does a really nice cream cheese icing. I also like the traditional “too sweet, can’t eat it very often” birthday cake icing. It is something my co-workers & I crave now and then. To take from the Jackson/Buffet song - It’s somebody’s birthday somewhere…

He would have told so many amusing anecdotes about how David Schwimmer is nothing like Ross. He would have brought donuts to the set every day, just because “It’s somebody’s birthday somewhere, eh?”

I never say, “It’s 5:00 somewhere,” when I drink early, but I do say, “It’s somebody’s birthday somewhere,” when I eat cake alone.
