Veganuary (vegan + January)

“Veganuary” (vegan + January), pronounced “vee-gan-uary,” is a pledge to eat vegan for the month of January. “Veganuary” was posted on Twitter on November 22, 2009.
Matthew Glover of the United Kingdom founded Veganuary.com and made the month an annual event, starting with January 2014.
Veganuary is a charity inspiring people to try vegan for January and throughout the rest of the year.

21 December 2013, Birmingham (UK) Mail, “Vegging out for January,” pg. 2:
A NEW campaign is to launch, encouraging people to adopt a plant-based diet for the month of January.
‘Veganuary’ has teamed up with the animal campaigning organisation Viva! to promote the challenge and raise funds for animals.
Matthew Glover, a vegan businessman, put forward the idea following inspiration from the Movember concept - the successful campaign which involves men growing moustaches in November while fundraising for prostate cancer research.
4 January 2014, Evening News (Edinburgh, Scotland), “V.E. days (that’s vegan eating)” by Gemma Fraser, pg. 15:
JANUARY is traditionally the month when we give up alcohol, banish chocolate from our diets and vow to take up a new sporting hobby. But an ambitious campaign is asking people to go even further with their New Year’s resolutions - by giving up all animal-based products for the month.
“Veganuary” is encouraging people to adopt a completely plant-based diet in a bid to eat more healthily, save animals’ lives and do their bit for the environment. Thousands of people from all walks of life are taking the challenge - even superstar couple Beyonce and Jay Z have jumped on the bandwagon. But just how easy is it to completely eradicate animal products from our diets? Matthew Glover is the vegan businessman who came up with the idea of Veganuary, which is taking place for the first time this year.
