“Snow in November happens because people prematurely decorate for Christmas”

Do people put up Christmas lights too early? And does that bring on winter even faster?

“Just FYI: Snow in November happens because people prematurely decorate for Christmas” was posted on Twitter by Jeff Davis Parish Weather (and others) on November 14, 2018. The saying probably originated with an image.

“Snow in October happens because people decorate for Christmas prematurely” is a similar saying.

Which brings us to that debate raging across social media and conversation here and elsewhere in the weeks since – how early is too early for holiday lights? An unusually snowy November has spawned one frequent response in the form of a popular meme:

“Snow in November happens because people prematurely decorate for Christmas,” the posts proclaim.
