New York Film Festival; Tribeca Film Festival
The New York Film Festival began in 1963 and takes place in Lincoln Center in the fall.
The Tribeca Film Festival was conceived by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal soon after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. The festival began in 2002 and takes place in the spring.

The 42nd New York Film Festival, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and sponsored by Diet Coke, HSBC Bank USA, N.A, and The New York Times, ran from October 1 through October 17, 2004, at Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center.

The first major international film festival to be organized for New York City will take place in September at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Twenty new films, selected from the best presented at other international festivals this spring and summer, will e shown here for the first time. The event is designed as a festival of festivals, along the lines of the annual London Film Festival.

Robert De Niro and the film producer Jane Rosenthal say they are ready to start a film festival in their neighborhood, TriBeCa, an event intended to bring some economic and emotional relif to the beleaguered southern tip of Manhattan.
Their TriBeCa Film Festival is to begin on May 1 with about 40 world premieres of independent and studio films, which will be eligible for jury awards, said Ms. Rosenthal, who founded TriBeCa Productions with Mr. De Niro in 1988.
