The song “Like a G6” (2009) by American music group Far East Movement is one of the top misheard lyrics of music, with many people singing “Like a Cheese Stick.” The lyrics “fly like a G6” often become “fried like a cheese stick.” There were several “Like a Cheese Stick” song parodies in 2010 and 2011.

“Like a G6” is a song by American music group Far East Movement featuring fellow American musicians Dev and The Cataracs, released as the lead single from Far East Movement’s third studio album Free Wired. The song was initially posted on November 4, 2009 on Far East Movement’s YouTube page. The track reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three non-consecutive weeks, becoming the first single by Asian-American artists to do so and the first by any artists of East Asian origin since Kyu Sakamoto’s 1963 single “Sukiyaki.”

The “G6” in the song came about when the Cataracs were looking for a rhyme for the line “Sippin’ sizzurp in my ride, like Three 6”, a reference to the 2000 song “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” by rap group Three 6 Mafia. They settled on “G6”, meant to be a reference to the private airplane model Gulfstream IV, referred to as a “G4”.

I put on a radio station from the TV that was called Y2K Hits. Obviously I’m not caught up on what’s cool nowadays because a song came on that I thought was peculiar…for being a “hit”, especially during this day in age. Yet, this random hip-hop song was totally my style. Frankly, I was surprised that I had never heard of it before…because the song’s chorus was just that spectacular.
The chorus that I heard went like this:

We’re not sure if it’s the hunger talking, but comically, fans have been mistaking the hook from Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” as “now I’m feelin’ so fly like a cheese stick.” Aside from the silliness of it, this mistake is particularly interesting as listeners need only look at the title of the song in order to get the wording right.

Riding in the car & the song “Like a G6” came on the radio. Halfway through it the kid asks, incredulously, from the backseat: “Is she really saying ‘fly like a cheese stick?’” 😆
