“Cinnamon rolls” have been jokingly referred to as “synonym rolls” since at least the 1990s. “Made some synonym rolls” was a popular tweet on July 9, 2014.
 
“What does a thesaurus eat for breakfast? Synonym Toast Crunch” was posted on Twitter on November 25, 2011. “What does a thesaurus eat for breakfast? Synonym buns” was posted on Twitter on May 6, 2016. “What did the thesaurus eat for breakfast? A synonym roll” was posted on Twitter on August 14, 2016.
 
Other “synonym rolls” jokes include “I made some synonym rolls. They all came out looking different, but they taste the same,” “I made some synonym rolls. They’re tasty, delicious, mouthwatering, delectable,” “Order synonym rolls.
