Known as “New York City’s secret suburb,” the estate-dotted enclave of Waccabuc is home to a population that peaks at 500. Hence, the community is inherently insular, and within its borders, this property represents a new apex in exclusivity.

Waccabuc
10 years since the waccabuc definition has been updated and the elitism hasn’t changed. Dubbed New York’s “secret suburb”, Waccabuc’s only operating business is the country club. This is literally the town that goop queen Gwyneth Paltrow has her weekend house in and current NYC chef Jean-Georges retreats to. The best way to spend a day in Waccabuc is to go cliff jumping at castle rock with the hopes that the residents don’t bitch you out for being an outsider.

Welcome to Waccabuc: New York’s “Secret Suburb”
Who’s moving here? “Many buyers who are moving to Waccabuc full-time are relocating from more densely populated areas of Westchester County or the city,” says Houlihan Lawrence agent Susan Stillman, who has lived in the hamlet since 1981.  “They come looking for a more rural lifestyle with a community feel or for more space—both for living and recreation. Weekenders, on the other hand, come in search of a tranquil getaway that is within a reasonable commute to New York and offers a leisurely summer lifestyle.”

Waccabuc – Westchester’s “secret suburb”.
Situated just 50 miles north of central Manhattan Waccabuc could not be more different to the frenzy of the Big Apple. Often considered “New York’s Secret Suburb” Upstart Business Journal was quoted as describing this hamlet of under one-thousand population as a “collection of privacy-loving C.E.O.s and bright stars in other firmaments.” Such famous names include the actress Blythe Danner (mother of Gwyneth Paltrow), Stanley O’Neal, former CEO and President of Merrill Lynch and the rapper Sean Combs as well as countless political figures and stars of the arts. In 1956 Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller married at the private home of Miller’s literary agent Kay Brown.
