"Money talks” (meaning that money has influence) is an old financial saying, cited in print in various forms to before 1700. “If money talks, then why do we need bank tellers?” is a jocular variation of the proverb than has been printed on several images.

“If money talks, why do we need bank tellers?” was posted on the website Pun of the Day in May 2002, and then was credited on the newsgroup alt.humor.puns on June 10, 2002.
