“You go to New York to become somebody; you to go Los Angeles to become famous”
“You go to New York to become somebody; you to go Los Angeles to become famous” is a saying that’s popular in the entertainment industry. “If you want to make money, you go to New York. If you want fame, you go to Los Angeles” was printed in the Los Angeles (CA) Times on February 24, 1993. “You go to New York to get a career, to LA to feel famous for it, to Paris to be ignored, and to Monaco to be appreciated” was cited on Twitter on December 23, 2010.
“You go to NY to get ahead. You go to LA to be seen and you go to Miami to get f’ed up” was cited on Twitter on January 3, 2012. “They say you go to New York to get good, and you go to LA to get found” was cited on Twitter on March 30, 2012. It’s not known who started the saying.
“You go to Los Angeles to become somebody; you go to New York when you are somebody” is a similar saying.

In your first stand-up special, you talk about your “minimalist” lifestyle in your NYC apartment. But you said at one time that once you can afford New York you move to L.A. Is that what you did?
Well that’s what ends up happening. By the time you feel comfortable, and that you’ve mastered a step, it no longer makes sense for you to do it anymore, and then you move to where you feel totally uncomfortable and a piece of sh** again. Basically, in stand-up you go to New York to get good and then you go to LA to sell what you’ve become.
