“You don’t recruit JuCos to sit on the bench” (college football adage)
“You don’t recruit JuCos to sit on the bench” is a popular college football adage. A college player normally has four years of eligibility, but a junior college (JuCo) recruit plays only for a year or two. College football programs try to get four-year players first and then use the junior colleges to fill in the talent gaps.
“You recruit JUCOs to win right now” was cited in 2007. “You don’t recruit JuCos to sit on the bench” was cited in 2009.

You recruit JUCOs to win right now. I can almost guarantee that this class is going to have a lot of JUCOs in it, if for no other reason than coaching changes usually leave a HUGE number of spots. We have 15 commits right now, a few will drop off, a new staff will have less than 60 days (in all likelihood) to recruit…JUCO is your route.

A lot of talk about getting Pick experience for the future. I heard a Rivals.com scout on 810 two weeks ago saying Mangino is looking at 2 different Juco QB recruits. You don’t recruit JuCos to sit on the bench.

Nebraska’s football team got a commit from junior-college defensive end Randy Gregory last week. It’ll host another JUCO defensive lineman for Saturday’s game vs. Penn State.
Trinity Valley (Texas) C.C. tackle Quincy Russell — a 6-foot-3, 305-pound consensus four star – will take a harder look at NU Saturday.
“Schools recruit JUCOs to come in and play right away,” Russell told Huskers Illustrated.

You don’t recruit juco’s to give you depth. You recruit jucos to come in and start until you can get younger guys ready.

With an already crowded depth chart at cornerback, I expect that Laguda’s impact will be felt first at safety, because as the old adage goes, you don’t recruit JuCo’s to sit.
