“As the wolf of Wall street has a leaning toward lambs with mint of money sauce” was cited in print in 1884. Wall Street stockbroker James R. Keene (1838-1913) was called the “gray wolf of Wall street” in 1911. David Lamar (1877-1934), a conman who impersonated a member of Congress, was called a “wolf of Wall street” in 1913. American financier Bernard Baruch (1870-1965) was called a “wolf of Wall street” in 1920.
The Wolf of Wall Street was the title of a 1929 silent film starring George Bancroft and a 2013 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The 2013 film was based on the autobiographical book The Wolf of Wall Street (2007) by American businessman and convicted criminal Jordan Belfort.

WHILE they were trying a batch of anarchist rioters at Marseilles the leader was seized with cholera. order has invoked many plagues in its defense, but the cholera is a volunteer, and from its action may be suspected of a leaning toward anarchy as the wolf of Wall street has a leaning toward lambs with mint of money sauce.

Mr. Olney, “the gray wolf of Wall street,” as Mr. Bryan once saw fit to designate him, recognized this possibility very clearly and dwelt upon it with glowing anticipation in his letter advocating Bryan’s election.

CHARGES DAVID LAMAR, IN LOBBY PROBE
WASHINGTON, July 2.—David Lamar, “the wolf of Wall street,” claiming that it was out of friendship and gratitude to Lawyer Edward Lauterbach of New York, told with smiling effrontery how he had impersonated Congressman Palmer of Pennsylvania on some occasions, and on others Congressman Riordan of New York, because they were high in the confidence of President Wilson’s administration, over the phone in talks with Judge Lovett, Lewis Ledyard and other prominent figures if Wall street, intimating to the latter in these talks that the connection of Lauterbach with teh SOuthern and Union Pacific dissolution matter would prove valuable to those railroad interests.

The fact that he has the backing of Tammany Hall and Wall street does not relieve him in the least from the odium of Wilsonism, for President Wilson himself was close to both, a circumstance attested very strikingly by his making Barney Baruch, a wolf of Wall street, the most powerful man in all the land next to himself.

Baroness of Hobcaw : the life of Belle W. Baruch
Author: Mary E Miller
Publisher: Columbia, S.C. : University of South Carolina Press, ©2006.
Edition/Format: eBook : Document : Biography : English
Database: WorldCat
Summary:
Belle W. Baruch (1899-1964) could outride, outshoot, outhunt, and outsail most of the young men of her elite social circle-abilities that distanced her from other debutantes of 1917. Unapologetic for her athleticism and interests in traditionally masculine pursuits, Baruch towered above male and female counterparts in height and daring. While she is known today for the wildlife conservation and biological research center on the South Carolina coast that bears her family name, Belle’s story is a rich narrative about one nonconformist’s ties to the land. In Baroness of Hobcaw, Mary E. Miller provides a provocative portrait of this unorthodox woman who gave a gift of monumental importance to the scientific community. Belle’s father, Bernard M. Baruch, the so-called Wolf of Wall Street, held sway over the financial and diplomatic world of the early twentieth century and served as an adviser to seven U.S. presidents. In 1905 he bought Hobcaw Barony, a sprawling seaside retreat where he entertained the likes of Churchill and FDR. Belle’s daily life at Hobcaw reflects the world of wealthy northerners, including the Vanderbilts and Luces, who bought tracts of southern acreage. Miller details Belle’s exploits-fox hunting at Hobcaw, show jumping at Deauville, flying her own plane, traveling with Edith Bolling Wilson, and patrolling the South Carolina beach for spies during World War II. Belle’s story also reveals her efforts to win her mother’s approval and her father’s attention, as well as her unraveling relationships with friends, family, employees, and lovers-both male and female. Miller describes Belle’s final success in saving Hobcaw from development as the overarching triumph of a tempestuous life.
