Wisconsin: “When it’s springtime in Wisconsin…” (funny winter poem)

A funny winter poem has been said about several cold places, such as Wisconsin and Ohio. Authorship is unknown.

The Wisconsin version was printed in the Boscobel (WI) Dial on April 11,  1996:

“When it’s springtime in Wisconsin and the gentle breezes blow,
About 70 miles an hour and it’s 52 below,
You can tell you’re in WIsconsin ‘cause the snow’s up to your butt,
And you take a breath of springtime air and your nose holes both freeze shut,
The weather here is wonderful so I guess I’ll hang around,
I could never leave Wisconsin, my feet are frozen to the ground.”

The Ohio version was posted on the newsgroup alt.support.lupus on Febuary 9, 2004:

“It’s winter in OHIO, and the gentle breezes blow,
70 miles per hour and 52 below!
Oh how I love OHIO, when the snow’s up to your butt,
you take a breath of winter air, and your nose it freezes shut.
Yes the weather here is wonderful, so I guess I’ll stick around,
but I could never leave OHIO cause I’m frozen to the ground.”

Our daughter Arlet bough us a poem that pretty well expresses how they feel about Wisconsin’s winter in that north country.

When it’s springtime in Wisconsin and the gentle breezes blow,
About 70 miles an hour and it’s 52 below,
You can tell you’re in WIsconsin ‘cause the snow’s up to your butt,
And you take a breath of springtime air and your nose holes both freeze shut,
The weather here is wonderful so I guess I’ll hang around,
I could never leave Wisconsin, my feet are frozen to the ground.

And from Glenda Hill, 521 N. WIsconsin Street, Genoa CIty, comes the following untitled (we’ll call it Spring) poem which a friend in Rhinelander sent to her:

Spring
When it’s springtime in Wisconsin
and the gentle breezes blow,
about 70 miles an hour
and it’s 52 below,
you can tell you’re in WIsconsin
‘cause the snow’s up to your butt
and you take a breath
of springtime air
and your nose holes
both freeze shut.
The weather here is wonderful,
so I guess I’ll hang around.
I could never leave Wisconsin
my feet are frozen to the ground!

Springtime in Saskatchewan

When it’s springtime in Saskatchewan
And the gentle breezes blow,
About seventy miles an hour
And it’s fifty-two below.
You can tell you’re in Saskatchewan
‘cause the snow’s up to your butt
And you take a breath of springtime air
And your noseholes both freeze shut.
The weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I’ll hang around,
I could never leave Saskatchewan
My feet are frozen to the ground.

It’s winter in Michigan
And the gentle breezes blow,
70 miles per hour at 52 below!

Oh, how I love Michigan
When the snow’s up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose, it freezes shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I’ll hang around.
But I could never leave Michigan
‘Cause I’m frozen to the ground!!!

rAnd the gentle breezes blow,
Ninety kilometres an hour,
At thirty-five below.
Oh, how I love New Brunswick
When the snow’s up to your butt.

And your nose, it freezes shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful,

This fun little ditty submitted by Jennifer Mawhinney of Fredericton was one of the first to arrive after this year’s call for Maritime humour, the first signal that the annual HubCap Comedy Festival must be in the works again.
