White Trash Cake (White Trash Wedding Cake)

A “White Trash Wedding Cake” (or “White Trash Cake”) is another name for a dump cake. The blog Culinarily Obsessed, on May 21, 2006, explained “I’ve renamed it ‘White Trash Wedding Cake’ because I simply can’t bear to eat something called ‘Dump Cake.’”

The cake—some have said it is more like a cobbler—contains yellow cake mix, cherry pie filling, and crushed pineapple.

RECIPE BACKSTORY
This “cake” is more of a cobbler and is typically known as “Dump Cake”. I remember my Nana making it occassionally when I was a child, and in spite of my childhood distaste for cherries I loved this dessert. Although my Nana was anything but “white trash” this dessert screams that to me, and since I cringe at the thought of loving a dessert named “Dump Cake” I’ve renamed this “White Trash Wedding Cake”. Super simple and totally delish. Enjoy!

White Trash Wedding Cake
(...)
A while back the thought crossed my mind of this cake my Nana used to make when I was younger, it was actually more like a cobbler than a cake - a layer of cherry pie filling, a layer of crushed pineapple then a sprinkling of yellow cake mix. So I brought out my treasured cookbook filled with all her handwritten notes and trusted recipes to find her recipe for “Dump Cake”. Yes, I said it- Dump Cake. I was craving something called Dump Cake, can you believe it? Nana was anything, but white trash, but that’s certainly what this recipe screams to me, so I’ve renamed it “White Trash Wedding Cake” because I simply can’t bear to eat something called “Dump Cake”.

Here is a Blueberry Lemon Dumpcake, both fresh baked from the oven and plated. Hope this helps

And thanks for the inspiration to try a new type of dessert…although my entire family got the giggles when I called it a “dump” cake, too bad such a tasty dish has a little potty humor attached to it as well hehehe.

On a side note, in doing some research for this I found out it has another funny name and that is “White Trash Wedding Cake”.

White Trash cake is also known as dump cake, and despite the names it is declicious!
White Trash cake is another name for what has traditionally been called dump cake. Even the word cake is a bit misleading, it’s sort of like a cobbler or a trifle but is not what most people think of as cake. No matter what you call it, it is amazingly good. I think the best part about it is the fact that it’s extremely simple to make.
Here is the recipe we use:(If the kids are eating it I leave out pineapple and put in an extra can cherry filling instead as they hate pineapple. You can experiment with this recipe and it won’t affect the recipe’s cook time.)
# 1 stick butter/margarine, melted
# 1 package yellow cake mix
# 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
# 1 (15 oz) can crushed pineapple, undrained
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple into 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle cake mix evenly over fruit mixture. Pour melted butter/margarine over cake mix.
2. If desired sprinkle 1 cup coconut and/or 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts on top. Bake for 50-60 minutes, until golden browned and bubbly

RUSH: No, it has nothing to do with Social Security. Is this White Trash Cake?
DAWN: White Trash.
RUSH: And that’s an affectionate term when you’re talking about cake, don’t misunderstand.
