Manhattan is not necessarily a place to buy a man’s hat, but a riddle has been cited since at least 2015:
 
Q: What’s the best place to buy a gentleman’s hat?
A: Manhattan.
   
“A man in a hat got a tan” is a similar Manhattan hat pun.
