“When you’re out of quality, you’re out of business”
“When you’re out of quality, you’re out of business” is a business saying of unknown authorship. A Georgia business leader called it an “old saying” in 1985.
The saying has been printed on several images.
25 October 1985, Marietta (GA) Daily Journal, “Business leaders seeking quality, productivity” by Jon McKenna, pg. 1D, col. 1:
Keynote speaker Henry Walker III told businessmen at the opening of the fourth annual Southeastern Quality Conference Thursday quality is still a primary commodity in business.
“The old saying that when you’re out of quality, you’re out of business was never truer than it is today,” said Walker, vice president and general manager for Griffin-headquartered Dundee Mills and last year’s president of the Georgia Textile Manufacturing Association.
13 May 1990, Poughkeepsie (NY) Journal, “Robert-Mark ad agency goes ‘public’” by Harvey Auster, pg. 1H, col. 5:
Ritter said, “We try to get across to our people a simple message: Out of quality, out of business.”

IMAGINE THE SURPRISE of Mercedes owners to receive a booklet from the firm entitled “History’s great business mistakes and how to avoid them”. With sections entitled “lack of forward vision can cost you time” and “when you’re out of quality, you’re out of business”, they could be forgiven for thinking the mistakes were Mercedes’ own.
