“What is a classical musician’s favorite Chinese food?”/“Bach Choy.”

The Chinese vegetable “bok choy” has nothing to do with German composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), but there have been several puns. “If you’re making a Faure to the grocery store, don’t forget the Bach Choy, the Ives Cream, and the Lemon Schubert!” was posted on the newsgroup rec.music.makers.piano on March 27, 1998, under the subject heading “Chopin Liszt.”

“What’s a classical musician’s favorite vegetable? Bach-choy, or Beet-hoven?” was posted on Twitter on November 13, 2011.

A: Bach Choy.

“What’s a chicken’s favorite vegetable?”/“Bok bok bok choy” is another “bok choy” joke.

Wikipedia: Bok choy
Bok choy or pak choi (Chinese: 上海青; Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis) is a type of Chinese cabbage. Chinensis varieties do not form heads and have smooth, dark green leaf blades instead, forming a cluster reminiscent of mustard greens or celery. Chinensis varieties are popular in southern China and Southeast Asia. Being winter-hardy, they are increasingly grown in Northern Europe. This group was originally classified as its own species under the name Brassica chinensis by Linnaeus.

Wikipedia: Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach (31 March [O.S. 21 March] 1685 – 28 July 1750) was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. He is known for instrumental compositions such as the Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations, and vocal music such as the St Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor. Since the 19th-century Bach Revival he has been generally regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time.
