“What gets rid of grime and stains?”/“Ammonia cleaner.”/“Sorry, I thought you worked here.”

“Ammonia cleaner” can sound like “I’m only a cleaner.” A joke was posted on Twitter by Yorkie ‘B’ #xmil on September 5, 2018:

I was in a hardware shop and I said to the guy “What gets rid of grime and stains?”
He said “Ammonia cleaner.”
I said “Oh sorry, I thought you worked here.”

The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak made the joke far more popular. This was posted on Twitter by Vadim on February 29, 2020:

Guy goes into B&Q (a UK equivalent of Home Depot or Lowe’s—ed.) and asks “what’s the best thing to use on surfaces for coronavirus?”
The guy goes “Ammonia cleaner”
He replies “Oh, I’m sorry I thought you worked here”.

Wikipedia: 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak
The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak is an ongoing global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China on 1 December 2019, spreading to every province-level administrative division of the country by 29 January 2020. On 30 January, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following an increase in the number of cases outside China.

Wikipedia: Ammonia
Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3. A stable binary hydride, and the simplest pnictogen hydride, ammonia is a colourless gas with a characteristic pungent smell. It is a common nitrogenous waste, particularly among aquatic organisms, and it contributes significantly to the nutritional needs of terrestrial organisms by serving as a precursor to food and fertilizers. Ammonia, either directly or indirectly, is also a building block for the synthesis of many pharmaceutical products and is used in many commercial cleaning products.
