“Weather forecast for tonight: dark”
New York City-born comedian George Carlin (1937-2008) performed the bit “Al Sleet, the hippy-dippy weatherman,” containing the memorable joke:
“Tonight’s forecast: dark. Continued dark tonight, turning to partly light in the morning.”
Carlin’s joke dates to at least 1972, when it was included in the audiobook FM & AM, and to 1978, when he told it in a filmed performance.
Wikipedia: George Carlin
George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008) was an American comedian, writer, social critic, and actor who won five Grammy Awards for his comedy albums. Carlin was noted for his black comedy as well as his thoughts on politics, the English language, psychology, religion, and various taboo subjects. Carlin and his “Seven dirty words” comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5–4 decision by the justices affirmed the government’s power to regulate indecent material on the public airwaves.
He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential stand-up comedians of all time: one newspaper called Carlin “the dean of counterculture comedians.”
