“We don’t do kings (in America)”

“We had a revolution in 1776 because we don’t do kings” was said by conservvative politician and speaker Sarah Palin at the Western Conservative Summit on July 19, 2014. Palin was referring to the American Revolution and also to U.S. President Barack Obama—a leader Palin believed to be acting like a dictator. Conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt had written “We don’t do kings, Mr. President” on October 4, 2013, in a piece for Townhall.com.

“We don’t do kings here” was cited in print in a 1995 book by Peter Kreeft. “We don’t do kings” was also said in 2000 by U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, remarking on whether the United States would politically support Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia.

Madeline Albright and Yugoslav Restoration

In the latest issue of “Monarchy”, I happened upon a most intriguing little gem.  According to an article by Charles Coulombe, Madeline Albright (U.S. Secretary of State) stated, when someone remarked to her that Crown Prince Alexander represented Yugoslavia’s best chances for sane, parliamentary government, “We don’t do Kings.”

Taking part in a discussion that touched upon the possibility of restoring the Monarchy in Serbia, Madeleine Albright, U.S. Secretary of State during the Clinton Administration, stated “We don’t do kings.” (The “we” referring to the U.S. Government). This lamentable statement, which so clearly demonstrated Albright’s blinkered, and wholly ignorant, attitude to the subject—an ignorance rooted in the prejudice engendered by fanatical allegiance to a one-size fits all concept of goverment, reinforced through the zealous repetition of the hollow mantra of “freedom and democracy” so beloved of spokesmen for the United States Government—reveals a major problem with United States policy.

“We don’t do kings,” Secretary of State Madeleine Albright once said when she was asked if restoration could help solve the problems of the south Slavs. “Pity you don’t,” the happy Commonwealth realms and the peaceable kingdoms of northern Europe might have added. The U.S. turned out to be more interested in easily-overwhelmed American clients like Ahmed Chalabi and Hamid Karzai; and how has that turned out?

9. We don’t do kings, Mr. President. Certainly not a year after a close election, a close election in which your opponent got 60 million votes and in which the People’s House remained firmly in Republican hands. The country votd for divided government, for negotiations, for shared responsibility, not for you to dictate terms.

SARAH PALIN ON OBAMA’S EXECUTIVE ACTIONS: ‘WE DON’T DO KINGS’
on BREITBART TV 19 Jul 2014
Saturday in Denver at the Western Conservative Summit, former Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) made the argument for impeaching President Barack Obama, saying, “No serious person can deny President Obama has violated the constitution.”

Listing the president’s high crimes and misdemeanors as his illegal changes to ObamaCare, the IRS targeting of conservatives, the DOJ targeting reporters, and the VA killing veterans, Palin said Obama is “radically changing the balance of power.”

She ended by declaring, “We had a revolution in 1776 because we don’t do kings.”
