“Waiter: Can I take your order?”/“Diner: Sure.”/“Waiter: Thanks. I’m just really hungry.”

A waiter’s request of “Can I take your order?” may have a double meaning. This restaurant joke was posted on Reddit—Jokes on January 14, 2016, and again on Reddit—Dadjokes on September 3, 2022:

“The waiter came up to our table.
He said, ‘Can I take your order?’
I said, ‘Sure.’
He said, ‘Thanks, I’m just really hungry.’”
