UnConvention Center (Pier 94)
Pier 94 is on the west side of Manhattan, at 54th Street. It used to be a garage, but since 1998 it has been the "UnConvention Center," a mini-Javits Convention Center.

In the year 2000, the City of New York awarded ENK International with a conditional designation to permanently develop Pier 94 into New York City's second Exhibition Center, the mandate of the UnConvention Center being to keep midsized trade shows and conventions here in New York City.
Located at 54th Street & 12th Ave., the city owned pier was built in 1959 as a shipping freight terminal. Pier 94 New York-The UnConvention Center is preparing for an extensive multi-million dollar renovation and upgrade scheduled for late 2004 and early 2005.
While no easy task, ENK International put together the perfect team to finance and perform a renovation on this already noteworthy waterfront property. ENK International has quickly become a landlord to Trade Show companies, helping them secure space in this powerful business capital.
9 June 1998, New York Times, pg. B9:
Fashion will have another home in Manhattan when renovations are completed on Pier 94, a 175,000-square-foot space at 755 12th Avenue (55th Street). Formerly a parking garage, the site, to be called the Uncovention Center, is to open on July 26 with the Collective, a men's-wear trade show produced by ENK International. ENK presents some of fashion's premier trade shows.
9 February 2000, New York Times, pg. B8:
Hall for Midsize Exhibits
Is Planned for Pier 94
By DAVID W. DUNLAP
A new exhibition hall called the Unconvention Center, one mile north of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and about one-third its size, is being planned for Pier 94 by the Giuliani administration and private developers.
At a cost of $50 million, the 750-foot-long pier shed would be renovated and the one-story head house, which runs from 52nd Street to 54th Street, would be replaced by a structure of two or three stories. Once laden with Cunard Line cargo, Pier 94 was more recently used as a parking garage.
31 August 2003, New York Times, "On a Pier Made for Working, the Public Wants a Place to Play" by Denny Lee, pg. CY6:
Park advocates had hoped to reclaim parts of the pier. But the city, which owns the pier, is now proposing to extend the UnConvetion Center's lease for up to 12 years ,and shrink the amount of public space required under the city's waterfront zoming rules.
