“The past is rewritten so fast that you don’t know what will happen yesterday.—Soviet joke”

An old Soviet joke is that government propaganda got so bad, and the past was rewritten so much, that people didn’t know what will happen yesterday. The form of the joke, however, became popular in 2022 and 2023.

“The past changes so quickly you don’t know what will happen yesterday” was posted on Twitter by Darth Putin on February 24, 2022. “As @DarthPutinKGB would say: ‘The problem with doing propaganda is that the past changes so quickly you don’t know what will happen yesterday’” was posted on Twitter by DiaperDon on August 12, 2022. “The hard part about doing propaganda is that the past changed so quickly you don’t know what will happen yesterday” was posted on Twitter by DiaperDon on August 12, 2022. “And then there is Darth Putin’s observation, ‘The problem with propaganda is that the past changes so fast, you don’t know what will happen yesterday’” was posted on Twitter by Morpheus’s box on January 28, 2023.
