"The recipe for the curry I just made called for…

“Five potatoes cubed” means to slice the five potatoes into cubes. It does not mean 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 potatoes, but there are jokes.

“Making soup and it calls for ‘eight potatoes cubed’.
