Texasing (“Texas” as a verb)

“Texasing” is a use of “Texas” as a verb. When President George W. Bush shook up his cabinet (composed largely of people from Texas) in April 2006, it was written that he was “de-Texasing” his administration.

The verb use of “Texas” is not common, but it is increasing and is easily understood.

We see by the Express and News where Laredo is thinking of seceding from Texas once more.

Laredo did that last year—when it set up the Republic of the Rio Grande. In fact, historically, the Laredo area did, at one time, become the headquarters of the Republic of the Rio Grande movement.

All this gave the historic old border city the distinction of out-Texasing Texas: Laredo has served under seven flags, Texas under six. The seventh flag, of course, was the Republic of the Rio Grande.

Weekend update…  07-02-04 10:13pm EST
So I decided to hold off on the trip to Texas for several reasons… In no particular order those reasons are as follows:

1. I could not find anyone who was able to make the trip with me.
2. I have not gotten enough sleep the past few nights to be able to drive 15 hours alone.
3. I need to save money…
4. My sister just had surgery and wants me to come home.
5. I can wait a little while till Nathan moves closer to BG to see his face.

Sooo…. I’m a little bummed about that, but instead of Texasing it this weekend I will instead be enjoying some bowling tonight, some homecooking tomorrow, some family time, some Tennessee fun fourth of July activities, perhaps a little ultimate frisbee on Sunday and maybe a little BYG action…

It would also see yet another of one of Bush’s closest Texas confidants leave the White House. There has been a dramatic ‘de-Texasing’ of the administration. McClellan, Rove and Miers all came with Bush to Washington from Texas. The reshuffle has been a reversal for a president who places a high value on sticking by his own officials. It is widely believed that neither Card nor McClellan wanted to go.
