East meets Texas
Fusion (****) blends Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian flavors with Texas tastes. Excellent sushi and clever entrees, served family-style for sharing, make this a standout among the growing number of local Asian-influenced restaurants.
Some like it hot: Many dishes have a spicy splash, such as the Texas roll with jalapeños and fried oysters with wasabi crème fraîche.

In Honor of the National Champions - The Texas Roll

Very rarely do I order any of the specialty rolls in sushi bars. For some reason, it just seems blasphemous to me. However, I would like to think that lifting my personal ban on certain things in maki sushi and ordering the Texas Roll at LA’s Hana Sushi contributed to Texas’ lovely 41-38 win over USC in the Rose Bowl/Championship Bowl last night.
The Texas Roll is basically a Philadelphia Roll with salmon and cream cheese, but with the addition of fresh jalapenos to make it “Texan.” (I am already kicking myself for calling out the “Philadelphia Roll” because I had previously refused to acknowledge that it has become a regular, standard item on sushi menus.) The Texas Roll didn’t taste horrible, but I am thinking that it only tasted okay as I watched Vince Young sashay across the field to make a TD.
