“Test that assumption at your earliest convenience”

“Test that assumption at your earliest convenience” is a jocular saying that has been printed on many images. The saying is considered a polite way of saying “fuck around and find out.” It often means, “if you really want to do something stupid, be my guest, go ahead and do it.”

“You may test that assumption at your convenience” was said in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, on the episode “Sins of The Father” that originally aired on March 17, 1990, by the character Captain Jean-Luc Picard (played by actor Patrick Stewart).

“You may test that assumption at your earliest convenience” is a popular variation.  “Please feel free to test that assumption at your earliest convenience” was posted on Twitter by I Am Michael Bach on June 29, 2017. “Go ahead and test that assumption at your earliest convenience” was posted on Twitter by Eldrave20 on February 19, 2019.

So, if you’re curious, I used the professional translation of ‘fuck around & find out’. RE: ‘You may test that assumption at your earliest convenience’” was posted on Twitter by Taylor Pender on July 14, 2021.

Since I’m down obsessed with corporate culture now, I learned a new term today. Have you ever wanted to tell someone “f*ck around, find out” but you’re at work? How about “test that assumption at your earliest convenience”?
