Team Titanic (2005-06 New York Knicks)
The ship Titanic hit an iceberg and sunk on its maiden voyage to New York in 1912. There was a popular 1997 movie titled Titanic.
Since that movie, a high-priced team that fails has been nicknamed "Team Titanic." In 1998, a baseball team and a football team were called "Team Titanic" by some.
The 2005-06 New York Knicks fit the role of a high-priced team that sinks to the bottom of the league. In early 2006, Marc Berman of the New York Post called the New York Knicks "Team Titanic."

I attached the nickname Team Titanic since January. It was a backpage, with a picture of Isiah and Larry on opposite sides of the Titanic, from the movie promotional shot. It was hilarious. My boss liked it and encouraged me to stick with it. The other beat writers are too bland to give this wretched club a nickname. Thanks. Berman

RMS Titanic (also SS Titanic) was the second of a trio of superliners intended to dominate the transatlantic travel business. Owned by the White Star Line and built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, United Kingdom, Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world at the time of its launching. During Titanic's maiden voyage, it struck an iceberg at 11:40 PM (ship's time) on Sunday evening April 14, 1912, and sank two hours and forty minutes later at 2:20 AM Monday morning.
The sinking resulted in the deaths of at least 1,517 people, ranking it as one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters in history and by far the most famous. Titanic's design used some of the most advanced technology available at the time and the ship was popularly believed to be "unsinkable". It was a great shock that, despite the advanced technology and experienced crew, Titanic sank with a great loss of life.
