Taste of Tribeca & Dine Around Downtown

Two new lower Manhattan food festivals are "Taste of Tribeca" (1994) and "Dine Around Downtown" (1997).

Taste of Tribeca was once $15, but is (in 2005) $40 in advance and $45 on the same day.

Dine Around Downtown once had free tastings, but is (in 2005) $3 to $5 a taste.

Taste of Tribeca was founded in 1994 by the parents of children in Tribeca's two public elementary schools, PS 150 and PS 234. They created this fundraiser as a way to showcase their very special neighborhood and pay for the much needed arts and enrichment programs at their childrens' schools. What has developed over the past 11 years is a true celebration of the Tribeca community.

In 1996, the inhabitants of Tribeca shared an extraordinary wealth of great architecture, restaurants and children. What we didn't have enough of was money for art in local public schools.

The dazzling success of Taste of Tribeca shows how the best part of life, given the right conditions, will occasionally spring forth with more power than ever imagined. Food, art and our children's education all converge on this glorious Spring day. "The Taste" is a day when everyone can see that when we share, we share a great deal."
