“Sunshine and Lollipops” (“Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows”)
“Sunshine and lollipops” means an idealized (and usually unrealistic) utopia of wonderful things. The political commentator Glenn Beck has used the term frequently since 2006, often in reference to Barack Obama’s policies.
‘Sunshine lollipops” have been sold in the United States since 1955. There is a 1963 newspaper citation of “a landscape of sunshine and lollipops.”
The “sunshine and lollipops” term was popularized in 1965, when Lesley Gore sang the Marvin Hamlisch-composed song, “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.”

Although Liza Minnelli’s debut album included a song written in his teens, his first hit did not come until he was 21 years old. This song, Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows, was sung by Lesley Gore. (The song later figured prominently in the “Marge on the Lam” episode of The Simpsons)

Lesley Gore (born May 2, 1946 as Lesley Sue Goldstein) is an American singer-songwriter of the “girl group era”. She is perhaps best known for her 1963 pop hit, “It’s My Party”, which she recorded at the age of 16. Following the hit, she became one of the most recognized teen pop singers of 1963-1967. At the time of her birth, her family was in the process of changing their names back to their Russian name (Gore).

Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you’re near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.
My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That’s how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody! (...)

Glenn Beck: What if Americans didn’t pay their taxes?
June 1, 2009 - 2:09 ET
Here’s the one thing: The government’s irresponsible spending is already turning us into slaves, so you might as well literally lock us all in chains.
USA Today reports that if you add up all the federal debt, each American household now owes $546,668 dollars — up 12 percent or $55,000 from last year. That’s four times what each U.S. household owes in car loans, credit cards, mortgages and all other debt combined.
Keep in mind that’s the conservative estimate; so what’s the number if you take an approach that’s not-so-sunshine-and-lollipops?

Maybe if things will turn out fine and accumulating more debt in six months than in 30 years will be like sunshine and lollipops and the government will turn out to be the best automaker the world has ever seen.
But I’m not counting on it, so I’ve got my umbrella out.
If that makes me the crazy guy, fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.
