“Success doesn’t come to you. You go to it”

“Success doesn’t come to you. You go to it” is a saying that has been printed on many images. The expression has long been a popular one. “Success doesn’t come to you nowadays—you’ve got to go after it, find it, earn it and deserve it” was printed in the Saint Paul (MN) Globe on May 23, 1897.

American educator Marva Collins (1936-2015) was quoted in the Chicago (IL) Tribune on April 5, 1978:

“Success doesn’t come to you. You go to it. You don’t buy it with Green Stamps. There’s no check until the work is done. You don’t get any report card until the homework is in. Every moment here (Westside Preparatory School in Chicago - -ed.) is going to be used.”

This Marva Collins quotation has been frequently included in books and in quotation collections.
