Still Not Laughing (Saturday Night Live or SNL backronym)

Saturday Night Live (SNL) has broadcast live from New York City on NBC television on Saturday nights since October 11, 1975. Not everyone thinks that SNL’s sketch comedy is funny. SNL has been dubbed “Still Not Funny” (a backronym or back-acronym of the letters) since at least 2005.

SNL has also been nicknamed “Democrat Night Live” and “Saturday Night Liberal” for its perceived political bias.

Wikipedia: Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live (abbreviated as SNL) is an American late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol. The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC’s Saturday Night. The show’s comedy sketches, which parody contemporary culture and politics, are performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members. Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest (who usually delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast) and features performances by a musical guest. An episode normally begins with a cold open sketch that ends with someone breaking character and proclaiming, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”, beginning the show proper.

It’s sad, really - once upon a time, SNL stood for Saturday Night Live, but for far too long now it has stood for Still Not Laughing.

SNL: Still Not Laughing

How funny would a joke be about Barack Obama having sex with his daughters? How funny a joke would it be about Jill Biden having sex with her sons?! I don’t think it’s absolutely in the slighest bit laughable. YET SOMEHOW…Saturday Night Live decided to do two skits about politics this week: one about John McCain’s age (oh how original) and the other about Scott Palin, husband of VP Candidate Sarah Palin, having “incest”.

Only “SNL” - Still Not Laughing - could make the Conan/Leno/NBC affair unfunny. What a completely unwatchable show.  Tired. Boring. Unfunny.
