Soda (for “pop”)
"Soda." Only "soda."
Not "pop." Not "soda pop." Not "soft drink." Not "cola," although people will understand that. Not "coke," or you'll get a Coca-Cola. Not "tonic," or you'll probably get a Schweppes.
The Dictionary of American Regional English is does not have a "sofa" entry yet (that volume is due out soon), but the "pop" entry states that "pop" is less frequent in the North Atlantic states.
