Six Flags Over Jerry (Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington)
Cowboys Stadium (the new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys football team, located in Arlington, TX) was completed in May 2009. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ stadium has been compared to Arlington’s other famous attraction, Six Flags Over Texas, and nicknamed by some as “Six Flags Over Jerry.”
Other nicknames for the new Cowboys Stadium have been “Death Star,” “Jerry World,” “Jerry Dome,” “Jones Mahal,” “Y’all Mahal,” “Boss Hog Bowl (Boss Hawg Bowl),” and “Cowboys Cathedral (Cathedral of Football).”
Wikipedia: Cowboys Stadium
Cowboys Stadium is the new retractable-roof stadium in Arlington, Texas, for the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys. It replaced the open-air Texas Stadium, which opened in 1971, as the Cowboys’ home. It was completed on May 29, 2009 and seats 80,000.
Construction and design
Cowboys Stadium was designed by the Dallas-based architectural firm HKS. Besides the Cowboys, the new stadium will be used by college football teams and other organizations for other sporting and non-sporting events. On March 10, 2008, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, joined by officials and coaches from Texas A&M University and the University of Arkansas (Jones’ alma mater), announced that the two schools would renew their rivalry with annual games at the stadium, beginning October 3, 2009. In addition, the Cotton Bowl will be moved to the stadium once it opens.
Originally estimated to cost $650 million, the stadium’s current construction cost was $1.15 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built.[8] To aid Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones in paying the construction costs of the new stadium, Arlington voters approved the increase of the city’s sales tax by one-half of a percent, the hotel occupancy tax by 2 percent, and car rental tax by 5 percent. The City of Arlington provided $325 million in funding, and Jones covered any cost overruns. Also, the NFL provided the Cowboys with an additional $150 million, as per their policy for giving teams a certain lump sum of money for stadium financing.
Although the stadium had yet to sell naming rights, many fans started referring to the project as “Jerry World” or “Six Flags Over Jerry” in reference to Jerry Jones and Six Flags Over Texas, which is near the new stadium. There was also a petition by some fans to have the stadium named after longtime Cowboys coach Tom Landry. On May 13, 2009, Jerry Jones announced the official name; the Cowboys Stadium.
A pair of nearly 300 ft (91 m)-tall arches spans the length of the stadium dome, anchored to the ground at each end. The new stadium also includes a retractable roof, glass doors allowing each end zone to be opened, and a center-hung video display board. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said the screen is the largest high-definition television screen in the world. The 160 foot by 72 foot, 11,520 square foot scoreboard replaces the 8,736 square foot screen that opened in 2009 at the renovated Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri as the world’s largest.

Wikipedia: Six Flags Over Texas
Six Flags Over Texas is a major amusement park located in Arlington, Texas (USA), east of Fort Worth and about 15 miles (24 km) west of Dallas. It is the oldest park of the Six Flags chain. The park opened on August 1, 1961 following just a year of construction and an initial investment of US$10 million by real estate developer Angus G. Wynne, Jr.
Since its opening, Six Flags Over Texas has consistently performed well in terms of attendance and revenue, despite its history of ever-changing owners and expansions. The park currently has several amusement rides and attractions, bringing in thousands of visitors daily.
The park is not owned by the Six Flags Theme Parks corporation. In an arrangement similar to that for Six Flags Over Georgia, it is owned by a group of approximately 120 limited partners—some the heirs of Angus G. Wynn—and is managed by the corporation. In years past, this has caused significant friction, including legal action. Starting in 1991, the park was managed by Time Warner Entertainment. In 1998, Time Warner sold its interests in the Six Flags parks to Premier Parks of Oklahoma City, which later changed its name to Six Flags Theme Parks, Inc.

Jerry has always said that no stadium naming deal was possible if the right deal wasn’t out there. Right now, it isn’t.
I love Brett, but he’s mined just about every negative angle he can find on Six Flags Over Jerry - and not all of them have been that newsworthy.

Baylor Home game? I don’t mind playin in Dallas as long as it’s at Six Flags over Jerry and it is Baylor’s year to be at home. Cause it really would be a home game for us but we should never have less than 6 games in the Jones and probably not less than 7. So if Baylor wants their home game to be in Arlington then let’s have at it!!!! Wreck’em Tech Keep Leach

This is what a $1.15 billion stadium looks like. Some call it “Six Flags over Jerry” (that’s Jerry Jones, the footballers owner. Even I know that!) The City of Arlington participated to the tune of $325 million. Personally in my own opinion, I think that I would have insisted for the Cowboys to be re-baptized Arlington Cowboys had I been the City of Arlington. To thank them for the $325 million, the new Stadium will only charge the honorable citizens of Arlington and others $40… for parking at major events. That’s $40 for a parking spot.
